Hathorn

Efland, NC

2005

Woodland was built in 1900 in a small town near Warrenton, NC. as a lovely Italianate four square home. It was painstakingly disassembled and then reassembled near Efland, NC in 1995. Our client purchased the house in 2005 and wanted to renovate the house as well as add a variety of modern conveniences, including six bathrooms, two kitchens, an elevator, and a two-car garage, while maintaining the grace, scale and style of the existing house.

Many details needed to be recreated following photographs taken prior to the move. In the grand living room we worked with artisans using resin casting and gold leafing to replicate the missing cornice pieces. Artisans also hand painted the decorative panels and rewired historic crystal chandeliers. The design highlighted the astounding massive vertical-sliding pocket doors in the first-floor study, which ascend into the second-floor walls.
